Next year I want a motorcycle, folks!

27 december 2001

Here are the first DeSong live pictures of the Knabenschule gig thanks to Kai and his digicam. I have taken the liberty to enhance them a little. Nothing's real nowadays! Frank makes it a sport to hide his pretty face behind his cymbals on nearly every shot; must be the drummer's curse.
On the left you can adore the birthday present from my crazy friends and relatives. Fly on little V!
The music files section has been cleaned up.

Specialguest Oceanside
on 15 dec 2001

21 december 2001

This was the ultimative birthday party! Thank you guys for showing up in numbers. If you've seen DeSong perform on 15 dec 2001 in the Knabenschule, please leave your impressions of the gig in the guestbook.
I only received this picture of our Special Guest Oceanside so far. I will post the DeSong pictures as soon as I get them. At least these two bands have one member in common...

I can not find the adequate words to "thank you" (hard to imagine that this word is also used, if somebody passes you the butter?!?) for my present. This FLYING V is a dream come true. I hope you'll be seeing it live in 2002! Unfortunately not everybody involved in the present signed the card, but I am grateful to ALL of you...

Enjoy your Christmas gatherings (and watch "Lord Of The Rings", after you read it of course)!

Don't forget to invite yourself to my birthday!

The mp3 section is back online in its complete beauty.

Vanity kills

21 november 2001

I have finally added a lyrics section, if you care for a little poetry. You must navigate through the setlist to get there (at least as long as we play the songs...).
No new songs in the pipeline at the moment, since we are busy trying to get a little tighter for 15th december 2001.
The pic of today features myself and a non-vintage Gibson SG.
But there is a different picture, I would love to show you, if I could only get my hands on a digicam sometime: Oli is a complete baldy now! Looks like something between a canon ball and a baby bottom... I add this picture for you to give you an impression how that might look.

The new Ozzy CD "Down To Earth" has been reviewed for your information.

Rearview

16 october 2001

DeSong wrote and arranged another song called Time. It's only available as a LoFi version, because of 1) background noise and 2) its lentgh of 8:43 min. Oli began writing the song by showing off a bass riff he came up with. Frank and I wanted to bring the thing to the next level by analyzing it, rearranging it and adding some chord progressions and rhythm changes that f*#~ed up Oli's original idea. Luckily we found something after another three rehearsals with which we're all happy.
The intro has this mexicantexan vibe that gradually evolves into the usual DeSong metal noise in the end. Pic of the day shows the drum bottoms, I wish mine was as hairless!

Live in concert
on
15 december 2001,
Bessunger Knabenschule,
Darmstadt

26 september 2001 pt.2

Yesterday I decided to give a birthday party on 15 december 2001 in the smaller cellar of the Bessunger Knabenschule, Darmstadt. De Song will play live in the new trio lineup. YES, DE SONG WILL PLAY LIVE. All the people asking the past 12 months (and some even longer!), when we will finally get our wide'n'heavy butts lifted and play, may invite themselves by clicking here. Concert will probably start between 10:00 and 10:30 pm. Gongrats are received only after midnight, since I was born on the 16.!
Yesterday we finished work on the new song Liquid Lover, which is basically a Pop Metal tune, meaning it features the best of Britney Spears (her eyes?) and Black Sabbath (duh?).
And last, but not least the link of the day for you formula 1 addicts, turn speakers on and click. (Thanks, Bobbinger!)

Pikachize

26 september 2001

OK. Stop bugging me. A couple of people have asked me, why I made these pages in english and not in german. Well, given the enormous popularity of De Song on international stages it was an obvious choice! For those of you, who would still prefer to read them in german, you could try babelfish for a good laugh! (And since I don't know wether the translators and programmers will one day improve their program, check out what I got as translation in august 2001. Aufrichtiger Ludwig?)
All the non-english speaking Pikachus and other Pokemons should check out this page.
(Eye-Of-Newt is a genius! The picture-links may not work properly in the translations, but the textlinks will.)

Sonnendeck

16 september 2001

On 31 august I was part of an event that took place in Darmstadt and was organized by different groups of architecture students. The idea behind the events was to give new/improved meaning to already existing places in the city. The large terrace above the university's Audimax was redecorated as the "sundeck" of a luxury liner. My part was to play and sing (shout?) at one corner of this stage to a steadily incoming and leaving audience of about 40 people at a time. The picture shows me, an ovation 6-string, the tower of the Landesmuseum and a bottle of Beck's beer... aaah! (Judging by the position of my left hand on the neck and the ferocity of attack by my right, I was playing "Got Me Wrong" when the picture was taken.)
Unnecessary to say that they got an "A" from the faculty of architecture for their impromtu concept.

If you care for updates on what our ex-axeman ex-Andy ex-Nealen is doing currently, check his personal tour diary at nealen.com.
If you are interested in some reviews on our previous releases check these three (1,2,3) or search for other reviews... that you think more suitable. Feel free to send me the best/truest review, you can find.
Oh, and The Cult is back.

Unfortunately this day has turned into a historical date:
Today four civil aircraft were hijacked by terrorists. Three of them were used as projectiles against the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, which completely collapsed, and the Pentagon in Washington. Thousands of innocent people died in these attacks.
There are far more important things than music today! Think about how this will affect your life...

16 august 2001

Last month I mentioned that I will have some pretty bad news for you this month. So in order to spoil your wonderful feeling of happy anticipation of what evil could happen to you, I will now give you the news: ANDY HAS LEFT THE BAND. He is in Vancouver now, continuing his 2. hobby, which is by coincidence also his professional career: studies of information science. My knowledge of Canada is limited... I was once in Toronto for a couple of days and left Canada via the Niagara Falls (No, not down the falls, I used a bridge to the US). But that's eastern Canada and Vancouver is far west. I guess over there you must find these typical Southpark-Canadians like Terrance and Phillip with heads like trashcans. (Which is why they are called CAN-adians btw as I learned from Andy. He has such an incredible general education.)
But do not despair, there are a couple of advantages too:
1. I get my Jackson guitar back (Damn cadgers everywhere!).
2. Less superfluous lead guitar, since we are a trio and I have to play a lot more rhythms.
3. I can sport a vertical hairstrip as beard on my chin, since the one "close" person who has one too, is now 8078 km away.
4. Cigarette breaks in the rehearsal room are quiet, since we ALL take a break together without having to listen to the latest electric guitar riff showcase by the cAndy man.
The main disadvantage is that we are very sad and down-spirited and can't stop crying... why did he have to leave us so soon?

20 july 2001

De Song has its annual summer break. Having a teacher as drummer means that your drummer has a lot of spare time and earns a decent amount of money, which implicates that your drummer spends his holidays everywhere but home!
I already get complains that there are no new cool links... Sweet Jesus! This is no coolness portal, it's just the headquarters of a rock band, that never plays live (although I played and dedicated "Balance" to my girlfriend's brother in law last weekend, when the man turned 40). But since I do take all you comments seriously I added 2 little links, if you absolutely do want out of here.
A band that played live after 6 years of silence is LIVING COLOUR. I was in cologne on 17 july 2001 and checked personally if their reunion was a good idea or just a necessity to refill their wallets.
Next month I'll have some pretty bad news for you, but that's next month so cheer up!

30 june 2001

Today it is ten years that I got my abitur and left school behind. A good opportunity to make a little evaluation of my achievements. ... Mmmmh, o.k., so much for my achievements!
I finally saw ALMOST FAMOUS. What a movie! I absolutely loved it. I just wished I was already born back in 1973... wait a moment, I was born in 1971, but I admit that I wasn't much into R'n'R back then. I mean, after all I was only 2 years old, lived in Germany and my parents listened to Harry Belafonte, who is a great performer and singer too (no kidding!), but not really into R'n'R either. If you like Led Zeppelin, The Who or even only a little of retro-Lenny Kravitz, I think you'll have your fun seeing the film.

17 june 2001

Finally the link section is up and running. If you are interested in stuff I'm interested in it's the right place to go! The review section is growing at a crawl. And last but not least there is a new mp3 song called Balance in the download section.

27 mai 2001

I played two gigs in april/mai with a little side project called "Nobody Allstars feat. Heavy Thunder". As the name hopefully implies it was a fun project. We played german 80's "Neue Deutsche Welle" coversongs and a couple of Schlager tunes on birthday parties. Since long hair and mean looking beards do not really symbolize the spirit of that era, I tried to hide my brownielocks under a hat (for at least half of the concert). I'm sure that my mum loves this picture (especially since the tattoo on my left arm can neither be seen from that perspective).

11 mai 2001

Pictures of the band and its members (former members, too) are now filed under visuals. The unique and very exclusive shot of the missing shit-coloured 5th teletubbie, who was supposed to be called muchomucho or genussmenschly is probably the highlight at this early state... Hey, what is the singular of teletubbies? Teletubby or Teletubbie? "I know!" Still only 1 review online... sad but true.

08 mai 2001

Thank you guys for the mass feedback within the first 6 days of being online (buy that at amazon.de). I was away for the weekend, so I couldn't react immediately to your suggestions. First of all I fixed a major bug regarding the Netscape compatibility of this site. (Although I have to say, that it's more Netscape's fault than mine. Who was the idiot that implemented the style sheet rules into Netscape? If he/she did so square with the propositions of the W3-consortium, I wouldn't have to do everything twice!)
Since some visitors are really eager to download song samples (I couldn't anticipate that, could I?), I added LoFi (32kbit, 22050Hz mono) and LoLoFi (16kbit, 11025Hz mono) versions of a couple of songs in the download section.

02 mai 2001

I put this site "on air" today. It is not entirely operational at this state, but there already is some stuff to explore. Mainly the mp3 section.
Moreover we have this wonderful picture of the day featuring two stormtroopers during their union-regulated pit stop, which I got somewhere I can't remember unfortunately. This is no offense against the owner of the shot, it's just my idle head.
